The Final season of Star Trek Picard takes a throwback to Star Trek’s original series of motion pictures.
The whole cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation will reunite for Star Trek: Picard. The whole cast of central characters who were present for most of the series will reunite on screen. That includes Marina Sirtis, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Brent Spiner, and Patrick Stewart
Star Trek Picard’s third and final season will bring together the characters of Jean-Luc Picard, William Riker, Beverly Crusher, Worf, Geordi La Forge, Deanna Troi, and whoever the actors have Spiner playing for one final journey.
The Next Generation’s last season will premiere on Paramount+ on February 16, 2023, but fans won’t have to wait five months to see the ensemble again because they’ll be gathering together once more for a future fan experience. The main cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation will be present at the New York Comic-Con on October 8 if you plan on attending. Stewart, Frakes, Burton, McFadden, Spiner, Sirtis, and Dorn will all be present on stage at the same time for the Picard panel, which will bring the group back together. They won’t be alone because Rod Roddenberry, the son of Gene Roddenberry, will be accompanying series creator Terry Matalas and franchise leader Alex Kurtzman.
Since the outset of Picard season 2, showrunner Terry Matalas has been open about how much he loves the old The Original Series movies. He has noted that the uniform designs in season 2 were especially a nod to Kirk and Spock’s outfits in The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock. However, the Picard season 3 teaser practically makes the visual style from season 2’s subtle references to the entire season 3’s aesthetic.
The trailer opens with Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), who is definitely donning a huge popped collar akin to that worn by Kirk in “Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan”. However, as fans will remember, Kirk continued to wear pseudo-Starfleet civilian clothing in “Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock”, where he sported yet another popped collar. The entire Picard season 3 trailer seems to be dominated by this and other similar beats from “The Search for Spock”.
Despite the fact that some critics of the first two seasons believed the show neglected TNG fans, Matalas has stated in a number of podcast interviews that Picard season 3 will, in many respects, seem like a brand-new series. The visual allusions to The Wrath of Khan and The Search for Spock suggest that Picard season 3 may be ready to provide a moving and character-focused tale akin to the TOS Trek movies. To put it another way, if Picard seasons 1 and 2 were more like The Motion Picture—competent but lacking character focus —Picard season 3 might be the character-focused TNG adventures fans have always wished for.
