“Set in the current MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls.” is the official description from Marvel for its upcoming mini series Secret Invasion. In it, Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) joins his allies, including Maria Hill, the Skrull Talos, who has established himself on Earth, and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman). We can safely presume that since it is the first Phase 5 television program, it will take place after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Three years have passed since the death of Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and the Battle of Earth, the Global Repatriation Council appears to have disbanded, and governments around the globe are scrambling to locate vibranium.

Both Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke make their MCU debuts in Secret Invasion. The mini-series will have six episodes and premieres on Disney Plus on June 21.

The Skrulls, the shape-shifting invaders introduced in Captain Marvel, will be revealed to have launched an assault in Secret Invasion. In contrast to the Skrulls in Captain Marvel, who were mostly friendly refugees from the Kree Empire under the leadership of Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos, the Skrulls in comic books are typically the bad guys.
